Someday My Prince Will Come
February 4th, 2009 by Ezrah | Filed under Chronicles of Love, PierrEzrah Photos, She says.Every little girl dreams about meeting her Prince Charming, anticipating about the exact moment that she would meet him; just like a princess meeting her prince. It’s love at first sight and then they live happily ever after. Right?
Well, that’s definitely not how I met my prince! And for that matter, I wouldn’t even call him a prince! I remember that he was the bad boy of the block. In fact, I didn’t even like him at first! Come to think of it, our first conversation over the phone ended up with me fuming and hanging up on him; refusing to speak to him again. See, a common friend introduced us together and that’s how our “relationship” started.
My prince and I, we didn’t start off on the right note. I thought he was the consummate bad boy, collecting girls wherever he went and I wasn’t about to hand him my heart wrapped in a big red bow. I was typically doubtful and questioned his every action until one night when I asked him a question that changed our lives forever. It was his answer that proved to me that he is a man with scruples, a good man, and an honest one.
We weren’t exactly a traditional couple, as most of you might think. We were in a “friends with benefits” like situation and it was a roller coaster. We went on dates together and we did things normal couples do; we were exclusive but not dating really. It wasn’t until two years later where we finally became official, but it wasn’t hurt-free since both of us were still tied up in different relationships then.
My parents were against our relationship. In fact, when they found out about us, they went through the roof and I was grounded for almost a year. Really. It was so crazy to the point where my mom had to come home to the Philippines and see what made me go wild, which was an exaggeration of course. But my prince, well, he braved the storm and went to meet my parents. I remember that day like it was yesterday. My parents said our relationship was okay but then the very next day, I was forbidden to see him ever! And so continues my punishment.
Being the headstrong teenager that I was, I still sneaked around to see him. Our relationship became stronger then. It was an ‘us against the world” moment for us. It was really a good time for us, though because I got closer to his sister and her family because we used to spend Tuesday and Thursdays at their place (I didn’t have classes then).
It wasn’t until my aunt found us together when my parents finally asked me to bring him over and stop sneaking around. It was around the end of January in 2005 and both of us were really nervous. Finally on February the 14th, my prince suggested that he cook something for us instead of going out to dinner with my father because he wasn’t comfortable at all. Little did we know that that day would be another milestone in our saga. He made balbacua and my father loved it!
In April of that year, I left for the US and we were separated again for almost a year. It was hard for us to be apart and even with multiple technologies, we still had to struggle to be together. That year wasn’t without fights and doubts but when I met him again a year later, our relationship had progressed into a new level. We were more trusting with each other and I believe a deep love had already taken root.
He may not be what I expected my prince charming would be but I don’t care. We’ve been through a lot and we’ve stayed together through it all. He may be a bad boy but he is my bad boy; my prince charming, my Pierre, my hubby.
Tonight, I’m listening to the song Someday We’ll Know by The New Radicals. This is very special to me because P sang a few lines of the song to me the night he told me that he loved me.
He sang to me a different line,
But we proved the last line of the song.
Someday we’ll know why I was the one for you…

Thanks for participating in FMB’s love meme. Bad boys are intriguing and don’t we love it if they get head over heels in love w/ us? That’s the exciting part. This is another love story where time and space did not hinder love to progress but maybe strengthened it all the more.
