Nights at the Beach

The Love Month Meme

The beach at night.  A perfect backdrop to a romantic date, isn’t it?  A typical place for couples to go lose themselves in the moment of utter beauty.  Sounds like a set in a romantic movie, doesn’t it?  But I bet that you any one of you can remember your dates with your special someone as something out of a movie.  (I can see you nodding your heads right now).

Kiss at the Beach

The beach holds a lot of memories for me and P.  It’s one of the places where we spent a lot of time talking and hiding away from the world (read forbidden love) where not a single soul could see us.  Souls who didn’t know us, that is.  There was one beach that we used to go to and one particular place in that beach that we used to stay for a few hours.  This was when P and I had our very first kiss….kisses… I cannot remember the exact date or what month it was but I remember the night and the full moon.  A perfect setting for a romantic evening.  It was one of the most memorable nights of my life, and I hope, his.  Sadly, we haven’t been to that beach and that spot in over three years now.  Perhaps during daytime we might go there but never at night.  Time have changed now and unfortunately, that place isn’t safe anymore.

Neither of us are theater buffs but to escape prying eyes, we also went on movie dates.  For our first date, we went and saw a movie, two movies, in fact since it was a back-to-back movie (our theaters did that to entice people to see movies).  Both of us don’t remember what those movies were but we can remember what happened, well almost happened.

Another place we used to hang out was at his sister’s house, two towns from the city.  We used to hang out a lot there when I had no classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I got to know his sister and her family.  I played with his nephew (we’re quite close now, by the way) and still, we were out of the public eye.  It was a nice way to get to know his family even though he couldn’t meet mine, yet.

P and I, well, we both loved to eat (this is an understatement) and we love (still do) to eat out once in awhile with his nephew in tow.  Seriously, a lot of people mistake Little P (whew! they’re all P’s) as our son because Little P is a splitting image of P!  When Little P is with us, we usually go to Jollibee.  There are only a few fast food chains in Dumaguete so we made do with what is available.  We aren’t fans of McDonald’s anyway.  One of our favorite hangouts is Gimmik, a local resto where we practically spent a lot of time (when the beach was getting unsafe) playing billiards.  Okay, he was playing billiards and I was attempting to be Efren “Bata” Reyes, but to no avail.  Funny thing is, we usually went there at 3 PM where there were no customers around.  Pretty early eh?  It felt like we owned the place, though.  LOL

Ahh those were the days.  We still go out on frequent dates, though but after we got married, we stayed home.  Of course, it helps that it’s only both of us at home so it’s practically like date night.  We watch movies or we have our friends over since he loves to cook and entertain.  Unfortunately, with us being in two different countries, it’s hard to go on dates.  That will change when I can go and visit him, that’s for sure!

Underneath the Same Sky

Under the Same Sky

P and I do not live in the same country.  Heck, we’re about 7,290 miles away from each other!  That far, huh?  With this minor problem between us, we try to do our best to make us feel as if we are together.  I know I’ve said this over and over again, but humor me on this one.  With the advent of technology, we do feel as if we’re together, sans the hugging, the kissing, and the dot dot dot… LMAO.  But despite that, we still paddle along just fine.

Sometimes, it’s a bit depressing to be away from him, but I cannot complain much.  I need to be here and tie up some loose ends before going back to the Philippines for a long visit.  Despite our distance, I have never heard P complain as much as I thought he would.  True, he still wants me to come and stay with him but he understands my reason for being away from him.

Some people may not understand why this is so but for reasons I cannot disclose, we have chosen to be in this situation.  This doesn’t mean that we like it but we think that if we give up a few years, we could have a better future together.  I believe that sacrificing a short part of our lives together would benefit us both and our family.

We don’t really see being apart as a negative but as a chance to grow into better and mature individuals.  I guess you could say that we are a bit prepared to withstand future trials because we have learned to live apart and part of each other.  I don’t know if I’m making sense or not but that is how I see it.

I remember the song Somewhere Out There from the animated film An American Tail and I think it fits our situation.  Ironically, we are both grumbling about the rain since it raining on both our parts of the world.  We are indeed under the same sky!
